Credit Card Payer Authentication for Commerce Web Stores

Credit card payer authentication is a security feature available for credit cards used during the checkout process on your Commerce website. This functionality allows customers to link a password to their credit card, providing an added layer of verification to confirm the card's ownership. This helps protect businesses from fraud and chargebacks.

How Payer Authentication Works

When payer authentication is enabled, customers will see options to add logos like Verified by Visa, MasterCard SecureCode, and Maestro SecureCode on your site. After placing an order, customers are redirected to a payer authentication site, where they can:

• Enter or create a password, or
• Choose to skip this step.

Upon completing this process, customers are returned to your website's confirmation page, and the order is recorded in your NetSuite account.

To track the payer authentication outcomes, a Payer Authentication Status field is added to sales orders. This field indicates whether the authentication:

• Was successful,
• Failed, or
• Was skipped.

The status field remains blank for other sales orders not involving credit card transactions on your website.

Supported Payment Gateways

Currently, payer authentication is available through several credit card gateways:

• MerchantE
• CyberSource
• eWAY Rapid
• Payflow Pro
• WorldPay

Important Note

If using CyberSource or MerchantE, it is essential to contact these providers to enable the payer authentication feature on your account. For Payflow Pro users, enrollment in PayPal's Buyer Authentication Service via your PayPal Manager account is necessary.

Enabling Credit Card Payer Authentication

To enable this feature in NetSuite, follow these steps:

1. Navigate to Setup > Accounting > Financial Statements > Payment Processing Profiles.
2. Click Edit next to the desired credit card gateway you wish to configure for payer authentication.
3. In the Primary section, check the Payer Authentication box.

4. Click Save.

Once these steps are completed, customers will be forwarded to the payer authentication site after they submit a credit card order.
