Inventory Optimization Results Dataset Setup Guide
Configure NetSuite’s standard dataset with documented prerequisites, permissions, joins, fields, filters, calculation timing, and customization.
The Inventory Optimization Results Dataset provides SuiteAnalytics access to stored Inventory Optimization Result records from completed inventory level calculations. Before using it, enable the required inventory features and confirm role access. The standard dataset excludes inactive results, does not include current item-location quantity fields, and updates when a scheduled or manual calculation successfully processes an item-location.
What must be enabled before you use the dataset?
The dataset requires Advanced Inventory Management and Inventory Optimization to be enabled on the Enable Features page. Inventory Optimization itself requires Advanced Inventory Management.
If the account needs to segment inventory by item-location, it must also use Advanced Item Location Configuration.
To enable Inventory Optimization:
- Go to Setup > Company > Setup Tasks > Enable Features.
- Open the Items & Inventory subtab.
- In the Inventory section, select Inventory Optimization.
- Click Save.
Enabling Inventory Optimization does not immediately change item planning values. Preferences must be set, eligible items must be included, and the related calculations must run. After Inventory Optimization is enabled, eligible Reorder Point items can be included.
Who can use and customize the dataset?
A role needs both of the following to use the Inventory Optimization Results Dataset:

The standard dataset is shared with all users by default. Only administrators can change its permissions.
Permissions also matter outside the dataset. The Inventory Optimization permission controls access to segment records, segmentation tasks, event logs, and result pages. The Items permission controls access to item records and the Calculate Inventory Levels page. To run Calculate Inventory Levels for Inventory Optimization, a role needs both the Items and Inventory Optimization permissions.
What is the standard dataset configuration?
The root record type is Inventory Optimization Result. The standard dataset includes joins to Item, Location, Item Location Configuration, and Inventory Optimization Segment.

The Override formula field displays Manual Override when Override Service Level is true. Otherwise, it displays Segment Default.
The standard criteria filter means that only stored Inventory Optimization Result records with Inactive set to false are shown.
Which fields are included?
The standard dataset includes the following fields from the Inventory Optimization Result record. The source configuration identifies the included fields, but does not specify field types or provide separate field definitions.

These are stored results written by inventory optimization processing. SuiteAnalytics does not recalculate the values in the dataset.
When do dataset results update?
Displayed results reflect completed inventory level calculations. If calculation inputs change, the displayed results do not update immediately. They update only after a scheduled or manual calculation successfully processes the applicable item-location.
This distinction is important when reviewing the dataset: it represents the stored result of completed processing rather than a recalculation performed by SuiteAnalytics at query time.
The dataset also does not include current item-location quantity fields. A workbook built from this standard dataset therefore has the fields listed above, along with fields available through its joins, but not current item-location quantity fields from the standard configuration.
How should you customize the standard dataset?
Use Save As to create your own version before customizing the standard dataset. This creates a separate version for changes while leaving the standard dataset in place.
In SuiteAnalytics Workbook, datasets are the foundation for workbook visualizations. A dataset combines fields from a root record type and joined related record types into a query. Access to record types and fields depends on account features and permissions.
In the Dataset Builder:
- Query results appear in the Data Grid.
- A new dataset automatically fills with fields from its root record type.
- The Records and Fields lists show joinable record types and available fields.
- Selecting a record type refreshes the Fields list for that record type.
- Selecting the arrow beside a record type in the Records list shows additional related record types.
- Adding fields from a related record type to the Data Grid, or using a field in a criteria filter, joins that record type to the dataset.
- Only fields added to the Data Grid can be used in workbook visualizations such as tables, pivots, and charts.
Custom formula fields can be added when standard record types do not provide what is needed. The standard dataset’s Override field is one example of a custom formula field already present in the configuration.
You can join as many record types as needed, but joining more than ten can hurt performance. When creating a saved version, evaluate each additional join against the fields and criteria required for the workbook.

What should teams check before relying on a workbook?
Confirm that Advanced Inventory Management and Inventory Optimization are enabled. If inventory is segmented by item-location, confirm that Advanced Item Location Configuration is also in use.
Next, confirm that the role has SuiteAnalytics Workbook at Edit level and Inventory Optimization at View level or higher. A role that needs to run Calculate Inventory Levels also needs the Items permission.
Finally, account for calculation timing when reviewing results. Changes to calculation inputs are reflected only when the relevant item-location has been successfully processed by a scheduled or manual calculation. The standard dataset also applies its Inactive equals false criterion, so inactive result records are excluded.
