Select Connection Types for Enhanced Task Management in NetSuite
Select Connection Types feature enhances task management in NetSuite 2025.1, improving manufacturing operation efficiency.
Starting in NetSuite 2025.1, users have gained greater flexibility in managing manufacturing operations through the enhanced ability to select connection types between operation tasks. Previously, tasks were restricted to a basic Finish-To-Start connection, meaning that subsequent tasks could only begin once the prior tasks had completely finished. While some tasks allowed for overlapping starts through a Start-To-Start with lag configuration, this limited operational efficiency in many scenarios.
Now, NetSuite introduces four types of connections that can be utilized between tasks:
- Start-To-Start: The following operations begin concurrently, with minimal lag calculated automatically by the system.
- Start-To-Start with lag: Here, the subsequent operation commences after a specified delay from the start of the initial operation, allowing for strategic timing.
- Finish-To-Start (default): This remains the standard connection type where subsequent operations can only start after completion of the previous one.
- Finish-To-Start with lag: Similar to the default, but with an additional definable delay after the previous operation completes.
You can access these new settings in the Predecessors subtab of the Manufacturing Operation Task popup window. This feature not only allows for more nuanced scheduling but also improves the ability to visualize and adjust timelines for operations seamlessly.
Additionally, these parameters can be configured in the Routing Steps subtab of the Manufacturing Routing popup window. Upon the upgrade, existing operations will automatically reflect the appropriate connection type based on the defined relationships.
Who This Affects
This new feature primarily impacts:
- Manufacturing Managers: Those responsible for planning and scheduling operations will find this feature invaluable in fine-tuning production flows.
- System Administrators: Administrators will need to adjust routing and connections in NetSuite based on new configurations.
- Developers: Developers working with integrations or custom scripts involving manufacturing tasks need to update their logic to account for these new connection types.
Key Takeaways
- New Connection Types: Four distinct connection types have been introduced to manage task dependencies.
- Improved Scheduling: The flexibility of operation management enhances workflow efficiency in manufacturing tasks.
- Seamless Integration: Existing operations automatically adjust to fit the new connection criteria, simplifying the transition for users.
- Access Locations: Connection types and delays can be edited in both the Manufacturing Operation Task and Manufacturing Routing popups, improving user experience.
